About us & Acknowedgements

Sexual Health is not just about preventing Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) or HIV. Sexual health includes respecting and protecting yourself and others to reduce the risks of STIs, HIV and unplanned pregnancies, feeling comfortable with your sexuality and having the ability to enjoy healthy, fulfilling and pleasurable relationships.

Sexual Health Promotion

Sexual Health Promotion can be described as any activity which improves and positively supports the sexual and emotional health and well-being of individuals, groups, communities and the wider population and reduces the risk of STIs, HIV and unplanned pregnancies.

About the Website

Information and education is an important part of sexual health promotion. The main aim of this website is to increase young people’s knowledge of sexual health and increase awareness of sexual health and teenage pregnancy services in Brighton and Hove, also to educate and support parents, carers and professionals in talking about sex and delivering sex and relationships education. The website has been based on the cd:rom SWISH that Brighton and Hove City PCT produced and distributed to local schools and youth clubs funded by the local Teenage Pregnancy Implementation Fund. This has been a well evaluated resource and the website is based on this resource with new sections included for parents, carers and professionals.

The website has been funded by the local Teenage Pregnancy Implementation Fund and by Brighton and Hove City Primary Care Trust.

Young people from Brighton and Hove have been involved in the development of the CD:ROM and website from the beginning by attending workshops, completing questionnaires and designing artwork.

All pictures of young people in sexual health services in the website have been posed by actors.
