A report has been released showing that the majority of young people in Brighton & Hove think the C-Card Scheme is great.
The results show that:
- 92% of young people had heard of the C-Card, the majority had heard about it via school.
- 77% of young people have a C-Card.
- 94% made positive comments about the C-Card scheme when asked ‘what do you think about the C-Card Scheme’.
- The main positive thing about the scheme is that condoms are free. Other positive comments included: getting condoms when and where you want to, that the scheme promoted safer sex and that young people get an opportunity to ask questions and gain advice on a 1-1 confidential basis.
- The main negative aspect of the scheme is that not enough condoms are provided per visit. Other negative comments included: the induction is too frequent, that its difficult if you loose or forget your card and that there needs to be more places with longer opening times to access condoms.
- 91% of young people do feel more confident in using / insisting on condoms as a result of having a c-card .
- 77% made a positive comment about the C-Card induction, 23% made a negative comment.
- Overall the majority being satisfied with the condoms provided with 87 (66%) making a positive or neutral comment, 44 (34%) making a negative comment in that they felt there needed to be more condoms offered per visit and a wider variety of condoms offered.
- In terms of improvements to the scheme, comments were mainly in relation to more promotion and advertising of the scheme.
